Harris Legal Search has been hired by a NASDAQ-traded biopharmaceutical company to recruit a patent counsel. 

This hire will secure and maintain patent applications to protect the Company’s inventions; review prior art and other patents in connection with opinions; ensure protection of the Company’s trade secrets; draft and review technology transfer, licensing, development, and commercialization agreements concerning intellectual property; perform intellectual property due diligence; and review proposed Company publications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Company research and development personnel to identify and evaluate corporate biotechnology inventions for patentability and determine optimal strategy for protection.
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications.
  • Draft agreements pertaining to intellectual property, including research agreements, commercialization agreements, technology transfer agreements, and licenses.
  • Review proposed Company presentations, publications, and releases to protect intellectual property rights.
  • Evaluate Company research and development activities and third-party patents with respect to freedom to operate.
  • Review, search, and complete due diligence evaluation of acquisition or licensing opportunities.
  • Prepare legal opinions and analyses of patents.
  • Review significant corporate legal documents and provide input on intellectual property issues.
  • Provide general legal advice and represents the Company in matters relating to intellectual property law.

EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in relevant biology or chemistry field, with knowledge and understanding of biotechnology.
  • J.D. degree.
  • Admitted to practice law in at least one state (Washington State preferred.)
  • Admitted to the USPTO.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in patent preparation and prosecution at a law firm, corporation, and/or USPTO.
  • Ability to understand science related to the Company’s biopharmaceutical research and development programs, and to interact as a scientific peer with research and development team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.

COMPENSATION

Base salary is $165,00 – 210,000, with bonus and equity based on relevant experience.  Excellent benefits.
